Easy to use for all animals
We have been using the Humphrey ADE for many years now at all sites of our 8 vet small animal practice. We have been consistently impressed by the ease of use of the system. From our point of view it has three unique benefits. Firstly we have to train our staff on only one circuit type, maximising familiarity and therefore safety. Secondly, we can use the same system for all the animals we treat. And thirdly we use lower gas flow rates than previously, which took some getting used to, but leads to good economy, especially since we switched to sevoflurane.

I am just writing to express my delight regarding our Humphrey ADE anaesthetic circuit.
I was somewhat sceptical about the claims made about 02 flow rates and the potential savings in Isoflurane. Not any more. Our usage of Isoflurane has halved since we changed our anaesthetic circuits and we expect to recoup the cost of the circuit in around 6 month.
I also feel happier using a circuit that preserves moist gases from the upper respiratory tract, especially for smaller patients where the dry anaesthetic gases can cause significant fluid loss in longer procedures.
Lastly, it is so much simpler for the nurses to have one basic circuit that adapts to all sizes of patient with only minor modification, So, in conclusion, I am a very happy man, The ADE circuit is well made, works brilliantly and makes Isoflurane anaesthesia much more economical. Every practice should have one (at least!).

Easy to use, huge cost savings
We started using the oxygen concentrating (“Free-Ox” machines and ADE anaesthetic system a year ago. After a training session from Dr Humphrey the transfer to the new machines and systems went ahead with no concerns, even though many of our nurses and vets had no experience of circle systems before this change.
We have three anaesthetic machines. Over the last year we have saved £7000 on the purchase of Sevoflurane. This does not take into account the amount that we have saved on by not using oxygen cylinders. We anticipate in two years from purchase we will have paid for the three machines purely in the savings on Sevoflurane.

Manual IPPV
Yesterday we repaired a ruptured diaphragm on a severely traumatized cat. We used the ADE of course, in this case with manual IPPV. The anaesthesia was the best I can recall for one of these, or indeed any open chest case.

Highly controllable and stable anaesthetics. Use of Sevoflurane use has dropped significantly
Having used the ADE system with sevoflurane, we have found the combination offers us highly controllable and stable anaesthetics for our patients. Our other circuits have largely been consigned to the storage drawer, and remain as a nurse and vet student training resource, rather than as practical parts of our armoury. Our sevoflurane use has dropped significantly as we can run at lower gas flow rates. I would recommend you look at this system, and having looked, you should buy it. We are very pleased that we did.

Extremely simple to use … robustly made … tiny, tiny flow rates
We began using the ADE systems approximately six years ago, and have recently bought a third. The systems are extremely simple to use and robustly made. We have never had any problems with them of any sort, and we have used them with patients from 100g to 95Kg. It takes virtually no time to be trained in their use and all of our staff are very fond of them. I have found them very easy to maintain and service, with a very helpful parts service and prompt delivery. From a business perspective, the tiny, tiny flow rates (usually 500ml per min for any size patient) have significant advantages in terms of huge reduction in waste gas, wasted agent and hence the disposal of these. Why use anything else?

Easy to use, huge cost savings
We opened the clinic in May 2017 and decided to purchase 2 ADE systems. We have one in theatre and one in Prep. Having researched the sytem I felt it would be easy to use and also cost effective to run. My experience has been that the answer is yes to both these things. Firstly there is no need to swap circuits for different size patients-simplyremove the soda lime canister for the small ones. Also when it comes to IPVV there is no need to change or fiddle with any valves etc.

From and economic perspective this is where the system comes into its own. in the 6 months we have been open, between both anaesthetics machines and daily surgical procedures we have used just one J size oxygen cylincder and topped the isoflurane up just a handful of times between the two circuits. The low flow rates maintain excellent o2 saturation and patients are stable under GA. All in all money well spent.

Savings on O2 and isoflurane costs. Good anaesthetic
I have been delighted with our conversion to ADE circuits in both our surgeries. We use an oxygen generator which has never let us down. Our bills for oxygen cylinders have vanished, our usage of isoflo has dramatically reduced and the quality of anaesthetic for the animals has been excellent. I would not go back to conventional circuits now, and as a VN training practice, I find it frustrating that all nurses are not yet taught how to use these circuits during their course.’

Low bills
We have used the ade circuit since 2018 in our 1st opinion small animal practice. Having used a variety of conventional circuits we were initially apprehensive about the transition to this one, however, we have found the circuit very easy to use, versatile and economical. The low oxygen requirements have been problem free with patients and has reduced our oxygen bill.

Robust, easy to use machine.
As a British vet working in Bali, where servicing is an issue, I needed an anesthetic machine that was user friendly to my Indonesian staff, robust in a hot and humid climate, and with economic running costs. I discovered the Humphrey Free-Ox system at the London Vet Show and it has been a marvellous buy. My clinic has used it daily for almost a year without a single malfunction, nothing has needed servicing or replacing, and our Isoflurane costs are much lower than the would otherwise be. Never going back to older breathing systems
Just a note to confirm for your interest that the two ADE systems we purchased from you are performing admirably. All four vets and the theatre staff have now adjusted to the changes in using your system. The benefits of reduced use of isoflurane, less wastage and pollution, and the ability to provide a low flow general anaesthetic that gives a smoother more effective result for the patient have appealed to all of us. No one would return to the old Bain or large circle system!!! We have implemented the advised maintenance procedures

Green – safety to patients and staff
We have recently purchased three of your anaesthetic systems as replacements for the systems we were using. They are working well & producing the benefits which motivated us to purchase them. They are very sparing on both anaesthetic gas and oxygen which should give us financial savings of between 60-70%. With this reduction in anaesthetic consumption, there will of course be a reduction in atmospheric and theatre pollution, and therefore an increase in safety for our staff. Our patients will also benefit from the system’s design as it is very efficient, working with low gas flows and very little airflow resistance. As a clinic that anaesthetises hundreds of puppies & kittens every year, this is obviously important. Well designed, easy to use
…thank you for the sale and installation of your well-designed ADE anaesthetic systems (2 bought). They have delivered on all the fronts that you said they would… Also their simplicity has made them easy to use and easy to train new staff to use, such that we can have high confidence in our anaesthetic protocols.

A good example was last week when we performed a repair to a traumatic diaphragmatic hernia in a 2. 5kg cat. The simplicity of managing the manually controlled respiration during surgery with the unique pop-off valve system of the ADE-circuit made the whole procedure much easier. The cat has made an excellent recovery.

Economical compared to older breathing systems
We have been using the Humphrey ADE-Circle Anaesthetic System for about 6 months now and find it safe and simple to use. Low running costs

Revolutionised our anaesthesia
Thank you for supplying the two Humphrey ADE-circle anaesthetic systems we purchased in March 2006. They have revolutionised our anaesthesia with the practice and are in use daily. The systems was even used successfully on an orthopaedic procedure on a donkey recently!
Our staff have adapted to their use very quickly which is amazing when we have used the old systems for so long. I’m sure this is in part at least due to your clear and easily understood explanations of how they function, and their care and maintenance when you installed the units. There is no equivalent product on the market in New Zealand.

I calculated in our veterinary practice using costings from the previous year, that the total cost of the four (ADE) machines would have paid for themselves in savings on Isoflurane and oxygen in approximately 11 months. It made good common sense to have 4 systems all functioning the same …. In the 15 months that we have been using the system we have not experienced any anaesthetic complications. Endorsed not only by vets but also by medical anaesthetists
I have been using Dr Humphrey’s anaesthetic system for over ten years and I have no hesitation in recommending it to fellow Vets. As you are probably aware Dr Humphrey is a medical anaesthetist who designed his circuit for mission stations and realised it could be used in a veterinary scenario. It is both efficient to use and simple in design to give excellent anaesthetics and to run very economically. He has developed a low flow system which can operate both on small patients or with the re-breathing system for larger dogs. This operates on extremely low flows for large dogs and this of course is an enormous financial saving both for the inhalant used and also for oxygen consumption. Dr Humphrey has revolutionised the veterinarians modus operandi by providing excellent anaesthesia which becomes a lot more economical and less risk for staff in theatre recurrent exposure to the gas .Initially I used the Isoflurane in my circuit which was very satisfactory but upgraded to Sevoflurane approximately five years ago. The reason for the change is that Sevoflurane is not only a more potent anaesthetic but also safer for reversal. It gives superb relaxation of abdominal muscles for surgery which allows easier wound closure and I believe less pain in recovery. It also provides a better recovery form the effects of anaesthetics and is the chosen anaesthetic in the human field where paediatrics endorsed it for babies and children some years ago. It was endorsed to me by Dr Jenny Thomas the head anaesthetist at Cape Town Red Cross Hospital and if anyone needs reassurance please speak to her (I am quite sure she would be delighted to discuss its merits ). As a profession we are indeed very fortunate to have Dr Humphrey as an educator and supplier of the best equipment which he personally will service on site (a very important part of using equipment).
It should be noted that the low flow system is particularly important for saving money and making it affordable to use. We are also fortunate that Sojourne (generic of Sevoflurane) is available to us in RSA at a fraction of the cost incurred in the UK. Dr Humphrey has had major effect in bringing the best equipment to us and he has not only spoken at International Conferences both here and also at the BSAVA in the UK where he has been very well received .Another veterinarian who is a leading anaesthetist is Dr Kenneth Joubert who would also vouch for Dr Humphrey’s credentials .The vaporiser for the Sevoflurane is the Rolls Royce in its field manufactured in the UK. It provides very accurate calibration which was illustrated to me a month or two ago.

Free-Ox and Mini-portable anaesthetic machines
I just wanted to write to you and congratulate you on your excellent anaesthetic machine. Casterbridge Animal Hospital has been running the Free-Ox Anaesthetic machine for the last 8 months without a single problem and I do feel this is testament to the superior quality of your system.
As you know we have now purchased your Mini Humphrey low-flow anaesthetic machine and both machines are working well together. I bought one oxygen cylinder as a backup in case of power failure. I’m happy to say that I still have never had to use it and have thus not had to pay a cent for Oxygen in the past 8 month. Being located in the Lowveld we have had a lot of snake bite patients in particular, which often need up to 12 hour non-stop oxygenation and your system is allowing us to give a very high standard of patient care in such cases in particular.

Fantastic positive pressure ventilation
The machine is going really well. We have done procedures that we would never have even dreamt of doing before.We have anaesthetised a four-week old puppy to stitch a wound on its shoulder. It has already saved a life by allowing us ventilation and oxygenation! We have done a dental on a 19 year old cat, and a 13 year old cat. All in all, we are very happy and feel very upmarket and “posh” in our practise!
